Abu Dhabi: The Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage's endeavour to give talented young filmmakers a chance to perfect their art has started giving results, with six talented Emiratis showing tremendous promise, an official said.
The Circle, an initiative devoted to financing, producing and encouraging budding filmmaking talent in the Middle East, has announced that one of its programmes - the Circle Film Labs, known as Adasa (Arabic for lens) - is making significant headway.
Adasa is a year-round programme devoted to nurturing young filmmakers with special emphasis on story structure and original feature film scripts. Adrienne Briggs, Director of The Circle, said the programme was launched with six participants from the UAE: Alia Al Shamsi, Abdullah Bastaki, Fadel Al Muhairi, Khadeja Al Buloshi, Khalid Al Subaihi and Lamya Gargash.
"They were flown to Los Angeles to attend summer workshop sessions, which provided them with an overview of the filmmaking process and a focus on how to create a story outline," she said in a statement.
Eisa Al Mazroui, Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage Project Manager said: "The Adasa Labs provide a wonderful opportunity to preserve Emirati culture by creating local stories that can be filmed and shared with the world."
